Top Run-Scorers in RR vs MI Matches

Sanju Samson leads all batters in this fixture, but Buttler’s average is the number that stands out.

Samson has featured in this fixture more than anyone in the table and still leads the chart. Buttler’s record is the one worth a second look. 533 runs at 59.22 in just 10 innings is exceptional output against one side. Suryakumar Yadav has been MI’s most dangerous batter here by strike rate, hitting at 151.76 across 12 innings.

Top Wicket-Takers in RR vs MI Matches

Bumrah leads the bowling chart, and his economy of 6.34 in a high-scoring fixture makes it even more impressive.

Harbhajan Singh (MI)141428.217.744/32

Four of the five names on this list played for MI. Bumrah at the top is no surprise, but the gap between him and the rest shows how often he delivered in this specific fixture. The only RR bowler on this list is Trent Boult, who took 14 wickets in just 10 innings at an average of 21.92.

RR’s record at the SMS Stadium in Jaipur is the strongest ground-specific stat in this rivalry. Six wins from nine home games give them a clear advantage when the match is in Jaipur.

The Wankhede tells a different story. MI lead there 5-4, and some of the most memorable games in this fixture have been played on that ground.

Best RR vs MI Match Ever: Wankhede 2014 Chase That Stunned the IPL

There are IPL nights you remember exactly where you were sitting. This was one of those nights.

Mumbai Indians needed 190 in 14.3 overs or fewer just to qualify on run rate. Not just win. Win fast. A normal chase was not going to cut it.

Rajasthan had posted 189/4. Samson hit 74 off 47, Karun Nair smashed 50 off 27. The target was already tough. The over limit made it look like a joke.

Simmons went early. Then Anderson walked in at three. The guy had scored just 88 runs in the entire tournament before this game. Nobody in that ground gave it a second thought.

First ball he faced, four through extra cover. Second ball, six over deep midwicket. Still, nobody panicked.

Then Cooper ran through the middle. Hussey gone, Pollard gone, Rohit gone. MI were 104/4 after nine overs, needing 86 more. Anderson was 46 off 23 balls, and Rayudu had just walked in.

Anderson got to fifty off 25 balls. Watson leaked 18 in the 12th over. By the 13th, MI needed 20 off 9. Tambe bowled that over. Anderson hit four, four, six. Just like that, 9 needed off 3 balls.

Faulkner had the last over. Full toss to Rayudu, six over long leg. 2 off 1. Rayudu pushed the next one; they went for two, but the throw found him short. Run out for 30 off 10 balls.

Last ball. 2 needed. Aditya Tare is on strike. Wankhede had gone completely quiet. Sachin was in the stands watching.

Full toss on leg stump. Tare hit it over square leg for six. Then he pulled his shirt over his head and ran straight towards Watson, celebrating right in his face. You know that kind of celebration where no words are needed, but everything is said.

Anderson finished 95 not out off 44 balls, nine fours, six sixes. Sachin ran onto the field and hugged him.

And on the other side, Rahul Dravid threw his cap on the floor. That man never loses his cool. Never. If you saw that and still did not understand how intense that night was at the Wankhede, nothing will convince you.

Conclusion: 16 Wins For MI, But Jaipur Still Belongs to RR

Mumbai Indians hold the overall edge in the RR vs MI head-to-head, but the two-win gap across 31 matches tells you how close this rivalry actually is. MI’s five wins at the Wankhede give them an advantage in Mumbai, while RR’s six wins at SMS Jaipur make them difficult to beat at home.

The 2014 Wankhede chase and the 2024 Jaipur demolition are the two moments that best define what this fixture can produce when the cricket is at its peak.
