CSK Innings: 127 All Out in 19.4 Overs

This was a horror show from CSK. Nandre Burger struck in the second over, bowling Sanju Samson for 6. One over later, Jofra Archer cleaned up captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for 6 as well.

It got worse immediately. Ayush Mhatre was dismissed for a duck off the very next ball, caught behind by Jurel off Burger. CSK were 19/3 inside 3.1 overs.

Sarfaraz Khan, the impact sub who replaced Mhatre, made a quickfire 17 off 12 (2 fours, 1 six) but fell lbw to Ravindra Jadeja. Matthew Short managed just 2 off 7 before Sandeep Sharma had him caught.

CSK were 62/6 at the first strategic timeout in 9 overs. Only Jamie Overton showed any fight. The English all-rounder ground out 43 off 36 (2 fours, 2 sixes) to push the total past 100.

But once Overton was run out at 127/10 in the 20th over, CSK’s innings folded. Their powerplay score of 41/4 in 6 overs told the whole story. They didn’t even reach 100 until the 18th over (17.1 overs, 103 balls).

RR Chase: 128/2 in 12.1 Overs

If CSK’s batting was a nightmare, RR’s chase was a daydream. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi went after the bowling from ball one and turned the chase into a formality within the powerplay itself.

The 19-year-old smashed 52 off just 17 balls (4 fours, 5 sixes) at a strike rate of 305.88. He reached his fifty off 15 deliveries, the fastest of IPL 2026 so far. His partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal yielded 75 runs in just 6.2 overs.

RR raced to 74/0 in the powerplay and hit 50 in 4.6 overs (30 balls). Sooryavanshi finally fell in the 7th over, caught by Sarfaraz Khan off Anshul Kamboj.

Dhruv Jurel came in and kept the aggression going with 18 off 9 (4 fours) before Kamboj struck again. At 99/2, Riyan Parag joined Jaiswal in the middle.

Captain Riyan Parag (14* off 11) and Jaiswal (38* off 36) completed the chase in the 13th over without any drama. RR reached 100 in just 8.4 overs (52 balls).

Key Highlights: RR vs CSK IPL 2026 Match 3

  • Sooryavanshi’s 15-ball fifty: The 19-year-old opener hit 4 fours and 5 sixes in his 52 off 17 balls. He reached his fifty off just 15 deliveries, making the 128-run chase look like a warm-up game.
  • CSK’s top order collapsed: Samson (6), Gaikwad (6), and Mhatre (0) all fell inside the first 3.1 overs. CSK were 19/3, and they never recovered.
  • RR’s bowling was relentless: Six bowlers shared the 10 wickets. Archer (2/19) and Burger (2/26) did the damage up front. Jadeja (2/18) strangled the middle order. None of them conceded more than 8.25 per over.
  • Jamie Overton’s lone hand: The all-rounder’s 43 off 36 was the only innings of substance for CSK. Without his contribution, CSK wouldn’t have crossed 85.
  • CSK’s powerplay disaster: 41 runs and 4 wickets in the first 6 overs. That set the tone for the entire match. CSK took 103 balls to reach 100.
  • RR’s powerplay dominance: In contrast, RR smashed 74/0 in their powerplay. The difference in approach was staggering.
  • Impact subs in play: CSK replaced Mhatre with Sarfaraz Khan at 3.1 overs. Sarfaraz made 17 off 12 but couldn’t rescue the innings. RR’s sub list included Donovan Ferreira, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Ravi Singh, Sushant Mishra, and Tushar Deshpande, but none were needed.

Verdict: One Sided Game as RR Beat CSK by 8 Wickets and Chased Target in 13th Over

This was a complete mismatch. RR’s pace attack made early inroads, their spinners kept the pressure on, and Sooryavanshi’s batting ensured the chase was done and dusted inside 13 overs. CSK’s batting woes from IPL 2025 seem to have followed them into the new season, and Gaikwad will need to find answers fast.
