SRH Innings: 194/9 in 20 Overs

Abhishek Sharma turned the powerplay into a personal highlights reel. He smashed 50 off just 15 balls (5 fours, 4 sixes), making it one of the fastest fifties of IPL 2026. SRH raced to 50 in 4.4 overs (28 balls).

Travis Head played second fiddle perfectly, contributing 23 off 20 as the opening pair added 75 runs for the first wicket in just 33 balls. The partnership set the tone for a massive total.

Then came a double blow. Head fell at 75/1 (5.5 overs), caught by Gaikwad off Mukesh Choudhary. Next ball, Ishan Kishan was out for a golden duck to the same bowler. SRH went from 75/0 to 75/2 in two deliveries.

Abhishek’s innings ended at 93/3 in the 8th over, caught behind off Jamie Overton. A DRS review confirmed the dismissal. His 59 off 22 (SR 268.18) had already done significant damage.

Heinrich Klaasen then took charge of the rebuild. He reached his fifty off 32 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes) and anchored the middle overs alongside Nitish Kumar Reddy (12 off 8) and Salil Arora (13 off 12). SRH crossed 100 in 8.5 overs and 150 in 14.3 overs.

Klaasen’s knock ended at 177/6 (17.2 overs) when Anshul Kamboj bowled him. Impact sub Liam Livingstone replaced Head at 17.2 overs but managed just 1 off 5 balls before falling to Kamboj as well.

The death overs were rough. SRH lost 4 wickets for 17 runs in the last 3 overs. Shivang Kumar (12 off 8) hit a six to push the total, but Kamboj and Overton cleaned up the tail. SRH finished at 194/9, a total that looked 10-15 runs short at one point.

CSK Chase: 184/8 in 20 Overs

CSK‘s chase started with intent. Sanju Samson smashed a six on his third ball, but Nitish Kumar Reddy had him caught by Klaasen for 7 off 3 at 15/1 in the 2nd over.

Impact sub Ayush Mhatre walked in and immediately took the attack to SRH. He blasted 30 off just 13 balls (5 fours, 1 six) at a strike rate of 230.76, helping CSK reach 50 in just 3 overs (18 balls). It was absolute carnage.

However, Mhatre’s fireworks ended at 66/2 (4.4 overs) when Nitish Kumar Reddy struck again. Two balls into the next over, Ruturaj Gaikwad (19 off 13) fell to Eshan Malinga, leaving CSK at 66/3.

Matthew Short and Sarfaraz Khan steadied the innings with a rebuild. Short held one end, scoring 34 off 30 (3 fours), while Sarfaraz added 25 off 19 (3 fours). Together, they pushed CSK to 112/3 by the 10th over.

Then Malinga struck twice in quick succession. Sarfaraz fell at 112/4 (10.4 overs), and Dewald Brevis followed for a duck at 113/5. Shivang Kumar dismissed Brevis, and suddenly CSK needed 82 off 51 balls with half the side gone.

Shivam Dube (21 off 16) and Short tried to rebuild, but Short’s dismissal at 148/6 (15.4 overs) to Malinga effectively ended CSK’s hopes. Dube fell shortly after at 154/7, bowled by Sakib Hussain.

Jamie Overton (16 off 15) kept fighting but was caught at 182/8 in the 20th over. Anshul Kamboj (13* off 8) hit a six but ran out of partners. CSK finished at 184/8, falling 10 runs short of the target.

Key Highlights

  • Abhishek Sharma’s 59 off 22 was absurd: He reached 50 off just 15 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. It was the kind of innings where the bowler barely gets to finish his run-up before the ball disappears. Also earned the Cricinfo MVP award (89.55 points).
  • Klaasen’s 59 off 39 rescued SRH’s middle overs: After SRH lost Abhishek at 93/3, Klaasen held the innings together. His fifty off 32 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes) ensured SRH stayed above the 9-run-per-over mark throughout.
  • Eshan Malinga’s 3/29 broke CSK’s chase: The Player of the Match removed Gaikwad (19), Sarfaraz (25), and Short (34). All three dismissals came at critical moments, especially the Sarfaraz-Brevis double blow that turned 112/3 into 113/5.
  • Ayush Mhatre’s 30 off 13 was thrilling but brief: The impact sub smashed 5 fours and a six at 230.76 SR, helping CSK reach 50 in just 18 balls. His dismissal at 66/2 shifted the momentum back to SRH.
  • Mukesh Choudhary’s twin strike shook SRH: He dismissed Head and Ishan Kishan on consecutive deliveries (5.5 and 5.6 overs), both caught by Gaikwad. SRH went from 75/0 to 75/2 in a heartbeat.
  • Kamboj and Overton shared 6 wickets: Anshul Kamboj took 3/22 in 3 overs with his best spell of the tournament. Jamie Overton matched him with 3/37 in 4 overs. Despite the wickets, CSK’s bowlers couldn’t restrict SRH under 190.
  • Impact subs: SRH replaced Travis Head with Liam Livingstone at 17.2 overs of their innings. CSK brought in Ayush Mhatre for Gurjapneet Singh, using the sub as a batting weapon at the top of the chase.

Verdict: SRH Defend 194 to Beat CSK by 10 Runs

Abhishek’s explosive 59 and Klaasen’s composed 59 gave SRH a total worth defending. Eshan Malinga‘s 3/29 then choked CSK’s middle order at the exact moments they needed partnerships. The double blow of Sarfaraz and Brevis in successive overs was the turning point.

For CSK, Mhatre’s cameo promised a run-chase for the ages, but the middle order couldn’t back it up. 15 wides from SRH’s bowlers kept CSK alive longer than they should have been, yet even those extras weren’t enough to bridge the gap.
