PBKS have never been short on batting firepower. From Shaun Marsh’s inaugural season heroics in 2008 to Shreyas Iyer’s IPL 2025 blitz, this franchise has a habit of producing breathtaking totals, even if trophies have remained elusive.

Here is the brief overview of each of these record-breaking innings.
1. 262/2 vs Kolkata Knight Riders – 26 April 2024, Eden Gardens, Kolkata
This is the night that rewrote T20 cricket history. Chasing 262 at Eden Gardens, PBKS pulled off the highest successful run chase in any T20 match ever, finishing with eight balls to spare.
Prabhsimran Singh came in as the Impact Player substitute and smashed 54 off just 20 balls. He hammered five sixes during a blistering 93/1 powerplay for PBKS.o
But the man who turned this chase from ambitious to inevitable was Jonny Bairstow. His unbeaten 108 off 48 balls included nine sixes. He had been dropped from the playing XI earlier in the season. Talk about a response.
Shashank Singh (68* off 28) joined Bairstow in the 13th over and never looked back. Their unbroken third-wicket stand came at nearly 17 runs per over.
The match produced a T20 world record 42 sixes across both innings and a combined aggregate of 523 runs. Sam Curran, standing in as captain, summed it up perfectly after the game.
2. 245/6 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad – 12 April 2025, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad
PBKS posted 245/6 after winning the toss and batting first in Match 27 of IPL 2025. On most nights, that total wins you the game by 40-plus runs. This was not most nights.
Openers Priyansh Arya (36) and Prabhsimran Singh (42 off 23) added 66 inside the powerplay. Captain Shreyas Iyer then produced a masterclass with 82 off 36 balls, striking six fours and six sixes.
Marcus Stoinis provided the late surge with a brutal 34 off 11 in the final over, smashing four sixes off Mohammed Shami. Harshal Patel picked up 4/42 for SRH but couldn’t stem the flow.
Then came Abhishek Sharma. His 141 off 55 balls broke KL Rahul’s record for the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history. He and Travis Head (66 off 37) put on 171 for the opening wicket. SRH chased down 246 with nine balls remaining.
A total of 492 runs were scored in the match. PBKS posted their second-highest total ever and still lost by eight wickets. Modern IPL in a nutshell.
3. 243/5 vs Gujarat Titans – 25 March 2025, Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
The fifth match of IPL 2025 set the tone for what would become PBKS’ best season. Batting first on a belting Ahmedabad surface, they posted 243/5.
Priyansh Arya (47 off 23) provided the early acceleration. Captain Shreyas Iyer then took over with a stunning 97 off 42 balls, falling just three runs short of a well-deserved century.
Shashank Singh contributed a quickfire 33 off 7 at the death to push the total past 240. This was the highest IPL total ever recorded at the Narendra Modi Stadium, breaking Gujarat Titans’ own previous record of 231/3.
Jos Buttler (54 off 33) and Sai Sudharsan (74 off 41) kept GT in the hunt, but they fell 11 runs short at 232/5. PBKS secured an early-season statement victory.
4. 236/5 vs Lucknow Super Giants – 4 May 2025, HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala
PBKS hadn’t won at Dharamsala since 2013. Twelve years of home-ground frustration ended in emphatic fashion.
Prabhsimran Singh was the architect with a blazing 91 off 48 balls. He attacked from ball one, hitting 16 sixes and 18 fours across the team’s innings. Captain Shreyas Iyer promoted himself to No. 4 and contributed a quickfire 45.
Josh Inglis (30) gave the middle overs stability after being promoted to No. 3 on Iyer’s call. Shashank Singh then did what he does best, smashing an unbeaten 33 off 15 at the death, including a six off Mayank Yadav that nearly cleared the Dharamsala hills.
Arshdeep Singh (3/16) then dismantled LSG’s top three in the powerplay. Ayush Badoni (74 off 40) fought valiantly but LSG finished on 199/7. PBKS won by 37 runs and moved to second on the points table.
5. 232/2 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore – 17 May 2011, HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala
This was vintage Adam Gilchrist. The Kings XI Punjab captain walked out against RCB in the mountain air of Dharamsala and hit everything out of the ground.
Gilchrist smashed 106 off 55 balls with nine fours and nine sixes. At the other end, Shaun Marsh scored a composed 79 off 57, and the pair added 206 for the second wicket.
KXIP finished on 232/2, losing just two wickets in 20 overs. RCB’s bowling attack had no answers. They were bundled out for just 121 in reply, handing Punjab a thumping 111-run victory. It remains one of the most lopsided results in franchise history.
6. 231/4 vs Chennai Super Kings – 7 May 2014, Barabati Stadium, Cuttack
The 2014 season was KXIP’s golden year. On this particular evening in Cuttack, Glenn Maxwell decided that the CSK bowlers deserved no mercy.
Maxwell blasted 90 off 38 balls, hitting six fours and eight sixes. David Miller (47 off 32) and captain George Bailey (40* off 13) provided the finishing touches.
KXIP posted 231/4 and then restricted CSK to 187/6. The 44-run victory kept Punjab rolling in a season where they topped the league table with 11 wins from 14 matches.
Maxwell finished IPL 2014 as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, scoring 552 runs at a strike rate of 187.75. This Cuttack innings was peak Big Show.
7. 230/3 vs Mumbai Indians – 11 May 2017, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
With their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, KXIP chose the high-risk, high-reward path at the Wankhede. It paid off spectacularly.
Wriddhiman Saha seized his opportunity as an opener with a career-best 93* off 55 balls. He had rarely opened in T20 cricket before this, but captain Glenn Maxwell backed the move. Maxwell himself chipped in with 47.
KXIP posted 230/3, the highest total of IPL 2017 at that point. MI gave it a mighty chase. Lendl Simmons (59) and Kieron Pollard (50*) brought MI agonisingly close.
With 15 needed off the last over, Mohit Sharma held his nerve and bowled accurate yorkers to deny Pollard. KXIP won by 7 runs in a match that produced 453 runs, the second-highest aggregate in IPL history at the time.
8. 226/6 vs Chennai Super Kings – 30 May 2014, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai (Qualifier 2)
A playoff game. The stakes could not have been higher. And Virender Sehwag chose this moment to produce one of the most iconic innings of his career.
Sehwag smashed 122 off 58 balls with 12 fours and eight sixes. He put on 110 for the first wicket with Manan Vohra and batted deep into the 19th over before Faf du Plessis took a brilliant diving catch at extra cover.
David Miller (38) provided the late push as KXIP posted 226/6. CSK needed 227 and got off to a flying start. Suresh Raina blazed 87 off just 25 balls, taking CSK to 100/2 after six overs. That was the highest powerplay score in T20 cricket at the time.
But Raina’s run-out at the start of the seventh over changed everything. CSK collapsed to 202/7. KXIP won by 24 runs to book their spot in the 2014 IPL final. Sehwag saluted the crowd as he walked off. Even CSK fans applauded.
9. 223/2 vs Rajasthan Royals – 27 September 2020, Sharjah Cricket Stadium
Sharjah in 2020 was a batter’s theme park, and Mayank Agarwal took full advantage. He hammered 106 off 50 balls with 10 fours and seven sixes to register his maiden IPL century.
Captain KL Rahul played the anchor perfectly with 69 off 54. The two stitched 183 for the opening wicket, the highest partnership of IPL 2020 at that point.
Nicholas Pooran (25* off 8) provided the late fireworks as KXIP finished on 223/2. It looked more than enough.
It was not. Sanju Samson (85 off 42) and the now-legendary Rahul Tewatia had other plans. Tewatia went from 8 off 19 balls to 53 off 31, smashing five sixes in one Sheldon Cottrell over. RR chased it down with three balls to spare. It was the highest successful chase in IPL history at the time.
10. 221/3 vs Rajasthan Royals – 28 May 2008, PCA Stadium, Mohali
This entry takes us all the way back to the inaugural IPL season. And fittingly, it features the man who defined KXIP’s first chapter: Shaun Marsh.
Marsh smashed 115 off 69 balls in a dead-rubber clash between the top two sides on the points table. He was the first Orange Cap winner in IPL history, and this innings showed exactly why.
James Hopes provided excellent support with 51 off 35 as the pair put on 133 for the first wicket. KXIP finished on 221/3, and RR could only manage 180/7 in reply.
The 41-run victory capped off a dominant league phase for KXIP, who finished second behind Shane Warne’s Rajasthan Royals. Piyush Chawla picked up 3/35 with the ball to complete a clinical performance.
Marsh finished the inaugural season with 616 runs in 11 innings at an average of 68.44. Nearly two decades later, no uncapped overseas signing has replicated that impact in their debut IPL season.
