MI vs RR IPL 2026 Match 69 Playing XI (Predicted Lineups)

PublishedMay 23, 2026

Match: 69th Match, IPL 2026 Teams: Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals Date: Saturday, May 24, 2026 Time: 3:30 PM IST (Afternoon – Double-Header Day) Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai MI Captain: Hardik Pandya RR Captain: Riyan Parag

This is the final league stage match for both Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, but the contexts could not be more different.

Mumbai Indians are already eliminated from playoff contention. Their season has been a major disappointment the five-time IPL champions managed just 5 wins from 13 matches and will finish outside the top four for the third time in four years. Match 69 is their farewell game at Wankhede, and Hardik Pandya described it as an “ESA game for the children” a chance to entertain their home fans one last time this season.

Rajasthan Royals arrive at Wankhede needing a win to qualify for the playoffs. They sit on 14 points from 13 matches after winning Match 64 against LSG a 7-wicket victory where Vaibhav Sooryavanshi blazed 93 off 38 and Mitchell Marsh hit 96 off 57. That win ended a three-match losing streak and gave RR’s campaign new life. If RR win here, they qualify. If they lose, they get eliminated and their season ends.

This is a dead rubber for MI and a must-win for RR. The afternoon start means no dew a major factor that usually helps chasing sides at Wankhede.

The head-to-head record is the tightest in IPL history between two franchises just 1 match separates them across 32 completed games. But the recent form strongly favours RR. They have won 4 of the last 5 meetings between these sides, including an 11-run win at Wankhede in IPL 2024 and MI’s only Wankhede win in 2025, where they rolled RR for 117 chasing 218 after Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton dominated the powerplay.

In the first IPL 2026 meeting at Guwahati (Match 9), RR chased down 151 in a rain-reduced 11-over chase with Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal going from ball one, winning by 27 runs.

At Wankhede, the record is closer 5-4 in MI’s favour. But Wankhede in the afternoon (no dew) tends to favour pace bowling slightly more than the typical evening games, which could suit MI’s attack.

Dew FactorSignificant in evening games not applicable (3:30 PM start)

Wankhede is the most batting-friendly major IPL venue in India. The average first innings score in IPL 2026 at this ground has been 222 the highest of any venue in the tournament this season. Four consecutive innings here in IPL 2026 all crossed 220 runs. The short square boundaries (62–65 metres) heavily reward powerful stroke play, and the Wankhede outfield is one of the fastest in the country.

The afternoon start at 3:30 PM is a significant differentiator for this match. Evening games at Wankhede come with heavy dew from around overs 12–14, which makes the ball slippery and heavily benefits batting second. With a 3:30 PM start, that dew factor is removed. Both innings will play under similar conditions. The toss still matters the side bowling first gets a slightly fresher pitch with some movement for pace in the first four overs but the advantage is far smaller than it would be in a night match.

Pacers get slight movement early but conditions flatten quickly after the 6th over. Spinners find little assistance at this ground. Ravi Bishnoi is the best spinner either side possesses, and his leg-spin is the one bowling option that can disrupt batting rhythm at Wankhede.

RR have the record for the highest successful chase here RR chased 212 against MI in 2023. MI’s biggest win over RR at this ground came in 2025 when they bowled RR out for 117 after posting 218.

Key Player Battles

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi vs Jasprit Bumrah This is the match’s defining contest. Sooryavanshi is the most in-form batter of IPL 2026 he leads the Orange Cap with 579 runs and is on a run of 93, 46, and 53 from his last three innings. Bumrah has had a difficult season but is MI’s most dangerous bowler and the only one capable of stopping a batter on this kind of form. If Bumrah removes Sooryavanshi inside the powerplay, RR’s innings loses its most explosive engine. If Sooryavanshi gets through Bumrah’s opening spell, he could demolish the total.

Jasprit Bumrah vs Yashasvi Jaiswal Jaiswal is a high-quality left-hander who handles pace bowling well. Bumrah’s angle to left-handers around the wicket, with his seam movement both ways, is one of the most technically demanding matchups in T20 cricket. Jaiswal’s wicket early in the powerplay is MI’s best path to restricting RR’s opening stand.

Jofra Archer vs Rohit Sharma Rohit returns to Wankhede in what could be his final IPL league match. Archer is a pace bowler who hits the wicket hard and can trouble right-handers with short deliveries. Rohit’s counter to express pace at Wankhede is to pull and he has done it brilliantly all his career at this ground. If Rohit gets into rhythm, MI post 200+. If Archer removes him in the powerplay, MI’s chase or total collapses from the top.

Ravi Bishnoi vs Suryakumar Yadav Bishnoi is RR’s best spinner and one of the best leg-spinners in the IPL. Suryakumar’s 360-degree batting makes him particularly hard to plan against, but he has had a difficult season against spin dismissed by spin three times in four early games. Bishnoi in overs 14–17 could be the key middle-phase battle in MI’s innings.

Match Prediction

On paper, RR should win this match comfortably. They are in better form, their top order is operating at the highest level in the tournament, and their bowling has been sharp when Archer and Bishnoi are both on song.

The motivation difference is enormous RR are playing for their lives, while MI are playing for pride in their final home game.

Wankhede in the afternoon is still a batting paradise. RR’s 579-run season from Sooryavanshi alone shows they can score on any surface. Their powerplay batting Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi hitting from ball one is the best opening pair in T20 cricket at this moment in the tournament.

MI’s best chance is Bumrah finding his early-season form and dismissing both openers inside the powerplay, then restricting RR to under 180. In the chase, Rohit and Rickelton will give MI a platform, but the question is whether the middle order (Tilak, SKY, Hardik) can capitalise.

Ultimately, RR’s desperation, their in-form batting, and their superior overall season make them the stronger team even at Wankhede.

Final Verdict

Sooryavanshi leads the Orange Cap with 579 runs and is in the form of his life. Jaiswal and Marsh add firepower at the top. RR’s bowling, led by Archer and Bishnoi, has the tools to restrict MI even on a high-scoring Wankhede surface.

MI’s only realistic path to a win runs through Bumrah if he dismisses both RR openers early, the game opens up. But MI have been too inconsistent this season to back that happening consistently enough to win.

The afternoon start removes the dew factor, making conditions equal for both innings. On a surface averaging 222 this IPL, expect a high-scoring game — and RR to hold their nerve when it matters most.
